Act of Love

O my God, I love Thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul.

Read slowly

O my God, I love Thee above all things,
with my whole heart and soul,
because Thou art all-good and worthy of all love.

I love my neighbor as myself
for the love of Thee.

I forgive all who have injured me
and ask pardon of all whom I have injured.

Amen.

About this prayer

The Act of Love is a devotion that explicitly expresses love of God above all and love of neighbor for God’s sake, including forgiveness. It is pastorally useful to convert one’s intentions—especially after irritation or resentment—into charity.

When to pray
After Holy Communion or whenever you notice anger, resentment, or coldness entering the heart.
After you read
Name one person (or yourself) for whom you will practice forgiveness before the day ends.
