Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
A prayer for spiritual protection, composed in a century of upheaval and still prayed by many Catholics at the end of Mass or in times of trial.
Protection. This prayer asks for deliverance from spiritual evils, which fits Catholic devotion to St. Michael the Archangel as a defender against the forces of darkness.
Morning. Many Catholics pray it at the start of the day to place themselves under heavenly protection before spiritual combat begins.
