Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
The Hail Mary joins the angel’s greeting and Elizabeth’s words to the Church’s request for Mary’s intercession. It is the Rosary’s characteristic prayer — ten times per decade while meditating on each mystery.
Marian. The prayer honors Mary’s unique role in salvation and asks her maternal intercession before God.
Trust & surrender. The Church’s supplication at the end entrusts body and soul to Mary’s care at the hour of death.
Part of the Rosary — a meditation on the life of Christ through the eyes of His Mother.
